A total of 13 students from the Faculty of Management UTM, together with 13 alumni from Institut Datoโ Onn Johor, participated in the Johor-Asia Youth Leadership Exchange programme held in Tokyo, Japan from 12 to 19 May 2026.
The programme was designed to deepen studentsโ understanding of product quality, innovation and effective management practices through international exposure and experiential learning. In addition, the initiative aimed to promote academic collaboration, cultural exchange and shared learning among universities with a focus on management practices and sustainability.
The exchange programme also reflects UTMโs ongoing commitment to enhancing its global presence as a leader in sustainability, community-based programmes, social responsibility and ethical values. Through cross-cultural engagement, students were able to broaden their global perspectives while strengthening mutual understanding and international networks.
During the visit, participants gained valuable insights into higher education opportunities in Japan through a sharing session delivered by Education Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo.

Students also had the opportunity to engage with students from Tokyo City University (TCU) in discussions related to cross-cultural learning experiences, urban development and management-related knowledge exchange. The interaction provided meaningful exposure to international academic environments and contemporary global issues.
In addition, participants attended a seminar at The University of Tokyo (UoT) entitled โInterdisciplinary Strategy, Innovation & Research: Academic Practices, International Perspectives.โ The session featured distinguished speakers from The University of Tokyo, Meiji University, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, as well as industry-academic leadership circles, who shared valuable perspectives on interdisciplinary research, innovation, academic collaboration and international engagement.
