A Summer School 2024 made possible by the generous support of Atsiri Research Centre in collaboration with the Agribusiness Department and Chemical Engineering Department, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
In the vibrant city of Banda Aceh, Indonesia, 10 students from Faculty of Management, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)โ€™s Bachelor of Management (Technology) and Bachelor of Management (Marketing) participated in the Summer School 2024. This programme provided them with a comprehensive experience of campaign creation, field trips, informative talks, and lab practicals to enhance their understanding of the entire patchouli oil production process. Led by the visionary ๐ƒ๐ซ ๐“๐ž๐ก ๐™๐š๐ก๐š๐ซ๐š๐ก ๐˜๐š๐š๐œ๐จ๐› ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ซ ๐Œ๐จ๐ก๐ ๐™๐ฎ๐ฅ๐Ÿ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ข ๐‡๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ง, our Senior Lecturers at the Department of Management and Technology, the programme has broadened the studentsโ€™ perspectives and encouraged innovative approaches to business management and sustainability.
From April 29 to May 3, 2024, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Indonesia hosted a hybrid classroom with lecturers from USK and UTM via an online platform. The programme covered three expected outcomes:
โ‡๏ธ Exposure to innovation and business modules in theory
โ‡๏ธ In-depth study of product innovation, business modules, and effective management practices
โ‡๏ธ Comprehensive understanding of the patchouli oil industry, encompassing all aspects of the value chain from planting to the finished product
Participants then connected theory with practice through visits to Atsiri Research Centre USK, Ninopark (Nilam Innovation Park), and Sentra Industri Nilam at Petani Nilas Nilam Lhoong Aceh Sejahtera.
Educational talks on the patchouli oil industry by both UTM and USK academicians have indeed inspired the younger generation about the process of patchouli oil production and its importance for sustainable business innovation.
