Datoโ€™ Ramlee, the Chief Executive (Group) of Permodalan Darul Ta’zim (PDT) and Chief Executive Officer of YPJ Holdings, through his inspiring presentation titled โ€œ๐†๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ-๐‹๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ž๐ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ฒ: ๐‰๐จ๐ก๐จ๐ซโ€™๐ฌ ๐„๐œ๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐œ ๐‚๐š๐ญ๐š๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ž๐ซโ€ provided insightful perspectives on leadership, the role of Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), and their significant impact on Johorโ€™s economy.
The Convention Hall of the Faculty of Management UTM was packed with more than 300 students and academicians who appreciated the insights on how effective management of GLCs can drive regional development. The attendees expressed their admiration for Datoโ€™ Ramleeโ€™s visionary leadership and his dedication to enhancing Johorโ€™s economic landscape.
Datoโ€™ Ramlee began by sharing his views on leadership, on the importance of vision, strategic planning, and ethical governance in driving organisational success. He also spoke about his experiences during leadership courses at Oxford and Harvard Kennedy School while emphasising the value of lifelong learning whereby age should not be a hindrance to oneโ€™s self improvement.
Datoโ€™ Ramlee explained the distinctions between GLCs and Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs), detailing their roles at both federal and state levels. He then outlined the achievements of the top five GLCs in Johor by highlighting their contributions to the stateโ€™s economic growth.
As one of Johorโ€™s leading GLCs, PDT plays a crucial role in economic and socio economic development. Datoโ€™ Ramlee presented a comprehensive overview of PDTโ€™s projects, including the Pengerang Deepwater Terminal which serves as a catalyst for further investments in the region.
The lecture also inspired the audience with the profound impact of GLCs on Johorโ€™s social progress, from infrastructure development and job creation to socio economoc initiatives. He shared success stories of projects like Eco Botanic 2 and the Johor Renewable Energy Policy 2030, demonstrating the alignment of GLC activities with state government policies. CSR has always been a top priority for PDT, with initiatives such as the PDT Masterโ€™s Education Fund and short courses for KAFA teachers significantly benefiting the local community.
Datoโ€™ Ramlee also pointed out the importance of leadership skills, emphasising the need to be meticulous in both macro and micro-management. This dual focus ensures that all aspects of a project are effectively overseen and managed.
He stressed the need to seek numerous opportunities, while acknowledging the uncertainty of what truly drives profitability. โ€œWe must cast many netsโ€ he remarked when highlighting the importance of exploring diverse avenues for business survival.
During the Q&A session, Datoโ€™ Ramlee addressed the roles of sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in projects. He discussed the implementation of rules, regulations, and policies to create awareness of green issues, integrating these elements into the planning and execution phases.
He emphasised the critical need to measure impact, noting that there is yet to be a significant initiative in assessing social impact. This gap highlights the importance of developing metrics to evaluate the social benefits of projects.
Additionally, Datoโ€™ Ramlee provided insights into green hydrogen, an emerging area with the potential to revolutionise energy sustainability.
Overall, the talk was well received by the UTM students and faculty members.
Thank you very much YB Dato’ Ramlee!
Your lecture was not just a presentation, but an inspirational call to action for future leaders to embrace strategic vision and ethical governance in their professional journey.
