Dr. Mohamad Shah Kassim

​Dr. Mohamad Shah Kassim is a senior lecturer and academic leader in the Faculty of Management at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he coordinates academic programs and student development. His career is distinguished by a strong commitment to innovative educational methodologies, particularly in experiential learning and gamification for business education. His expertise also lies in management studies, with a strong focus on employee engagement. He has co-authored research examining its drivers in contexts like the Malaysian public sector and multinational companies in Oman. More recently, his research has expanded into digital transformation, investigating its impact on strategic decision-making in higher education. A cornerstone of Dr. Kassim’s contributions is his pivotal role in the development and promotion of MonsoonSIM, an award-winning, cloud-based business simulation platform. As the project leader, he spearheaded the “Monsoonsim Business Simulation: Enhancing Learning Through Gamification” initiative, which earned the prestigious University-Industry Teaching and Learning Network Award at the NALI 2018 competition. This platform is designed to provide an immersive learning environment, covering hundreds of interconnected business concepts across areas such as accounting, finance, logistics, and human resources. His work with MonsoonSIM demonstrates a dedication to transforming traditional pedagogy, shifting educators from conventional teaching roles to facilitators of interactive, student-driven learning. Dr. Kassim’s expertise is recognized beyond UTM, as he has been invited to share his knowledge internationally. In August 2019, he served as a guest speaker at a MonsoonSIM sharing session held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an event tied to an international competition that brought together participants from numerous countries. Furthermore, his scholarly work includes co-authoring research on the impact of such simulations, including studies like “Impact of MonsoonSIM on UTM Students” and “Radical and disruptive innovation in higher education,” which explore the effectiveness of gamified learning tools. In summary, Dr. Mohamad Shah Kassim stands out as an innovative educator and researcher.
